About the Author
Cammie Corlas Quinn grew up in the '60s and '70s passing her handwritten stories around the classroom to her classmates. She was inspired to become a writer by her mother, Florence Corlas, a writer who raised Cammie and her five younger siblings to appreciate the blessings of home and family. Some of Florence's writings appear on this website.
Cammie's writing interests range from newspaper feature articles to inspirational stories to Civil War novels. She grew up in "The Land of Lincoln" in small-town Auburn, Illinois, often playing in the farm fields of her grandparents. She pursued her writing dreams at Lincoln Land Community College (A.A. 1977) and Illinois State University (B.S. 1979, M.S. 1990). Since graduating, she and her husband have raised two children, and Cammie has worked at a bank, a university, and an inner-city food pantry.
Her writing is regional, focusing on the people and landscape of Central Illinois. Her 2023 novel, Follow the Wind Home, is set in Springfield, Illinois during the Civil War. Her newest book, Going Home: Stories of Small-Town Central Illinois, (published in November of 2025) is a collection of short pieces—both nonfiction and fiction—set in her hometown, Auburn.
She is also the author of a nonfiction history book, Lincoln's Springfield in the Civil War (1991), as well as numerous newspaper articles written for The State Journal-Register (Springfield, IL) and The Lexingtonian. Her feature article about ice skating as a child won first place in the feature writing division of the 2017 Illinois Press Association Newspaper Contest.
Cammie lives in Central Illinois with her husband, Kevin. They have two grown children, one grandchild, and three cats. Kevin, a retired software engineer, created and maintains this website for Cammie. All photos and banners are from personal family albums.
In 2003, Cammie lost her right eye to cancer. Since then, her prayer has been that God would allow her to see Him better with one eye than with two.
